Hardware & Design Language

Project at Pentagram Design
Industrial design of photonic computing hardware.
Full case study: ︎︎︎
Ligtmatter’s technology is revolultionisng the cutting edge of computing techonlogy, by utilising chips that perform calculations by manipulating light, rather than electricity, opening the potential for exponential increases in speed, energy efficiency, and temperature.
The design language was built around the unique properties of photonic systems, focusing on the lightwave guides inside the chips as the core visual elements, in line with a unique brand design.
Sleek and minimalistic, the hardware design is built to convey the look and feel of a high end sounds system, rather than the familiar computing ‘black box archetype’.
I worked as one of the lead designers on this project, responsible for every step from concept creation all the way to final deliverables for the client for production.
